Our Story
The Accord Group was established in 1992 by David Newton, one of Australia’s most experienced dispute resolution specialists and a pioneer of commercial mediation. Sadly, David passed away in 2016.
Cecily Zhu joined the firm in 2013. Under David’s invaluable tutelage and treasured mentorship, she quickly developed expert knowledge and extensive practical experience in mediation and dispute resolution.
Cecily now manages our international team, maintains all client relationships and guides the strategic direction of the firm into the future. David’s legacy is in safe hands.
About Cecily
Cecily Zhu is the managing director of The Accord Group.
Cecily joined The Accord Group while studying Commerce and Law at the University of New South Wales. She first became curious about alternative dispute resolution from her studies and participation in various competitions, including the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris.
Cecily has since been admitted as a lawyer and has become a nationally accredited mediator. In addition to more than five years with The Accord Group, Cecily brings to the table additional experience as a Conciliator for the Fair Work Commission. Outside of work, Cecily loves travelling, snow sports and being a Unit Leader for the Girl Guides NSW & ACT.
David was one of Australia’s foremost pioneers in dispute resolution and it’s an honour to be continuing his legacy with The Accord Group.
